Loss is unavoidable

In our lives, change is unavoidable, loss is unavoidable. In the adaptability and ease with which we experience change, lies our happiness and freedom. ~Buddha

We are the same as plants

We are the same as plants, as trees, as other people, as the rain that falls. We consist of that which is around us, we are the same as everything. If we destroy something around us, we destroy ourselves. If we cheat another, we cheat ourselves. ~Buddha

No mud no lotus

As a water bead on a lotus leaf,
as water on a red lily,
does not adhere,

so the sage
does not adhere
to the seen, the heard, or the sensed.

He who would conquer just one

With my uncle at the hospital. My uncle has been close friend of my big sis’ father in law who just passed a way on Christmas day. Hope he will go home soon so we could attend the funeral service together. He misses my big sis’ father in law so much.

Greater in battle
than the man who would conquer
a thousand-thousand men,
is he who would conquer
just one —
himself.
Better to conquer yourself
than others.
When you’ve trained yourself,
living in constant self-control,
neither a deva nor gandhabba,
nor a Mara banded with Brahmas,
could turn that triumph
back into defeat.

If he is peaceful

A man is not called wise because he talks and talks again; but if he is peaceful, loving and fearless then he is in truth called wise. ~Buddha
